Why does RecordFlower ask for your authorization once?

When connecting your Discogs account to RecordFlower, you grant secure authorization once. How exactly does that work, and why is it secure?

Granting authorization once

Large platforms such as Google, Facebook and Discogs let you grant authorization to other programs, such as RecordFlower, in a secure way. This gives such a program access to certain data, without you ever sharing your password.

In practice, it works like this: you're redirected to Discogs, log in with your own Discogs details, and grant RecordFlower authorization to connect your inventory. RecordFlower never sees your password.

What RecordFlower does and doesn't do

RecordFlower reads in your Discogs inventory: releases, prices, conditions and descriptions. You manage that content on Discogs. RecordFlower doesn't change your prices or descriptions and doesn't remove items. One exception: sell a record in your webshop, and RecordFlower updates the stock of that same Discogs listing, so you never sell the same record twice. On a return, RecordFlower restores the stock again.

Withdrawing authorization

Want to break the connection? You can withdraw your authorization at any moment through your Discogs account settings. RecordFlower then automatically stops synchronizing. Your webshop stays active until you cancel your subscription.

What does this mean for you?

The connection is secure, transparent, and fully in your own control. You give RecordFlower only what's needed, and you can reverse it at any moment.
