DNS connection explained: how to connect your domain name to your webshop

To connect your own domain name to your RecordFlower webshop, you make a DNS change. It sounds technical, but it's a one-time action that most sellers complete in a few minutes. An own domain comes with the Standalone Webshop and Pro / Growth.

What is DNS?

DNS stands for Domain Name System. It's the system that translates a domain name, such as yourstore.com, into a specific web address. By changing a DNS setting, you tell the internet that your domain name should point to your RecordFlower webshop.

What you do

You log in to your domain registrar, the party where you registered your domain name, such as TransIP, Antagonist, or another provider. In the DNS settings, you add a CNAME record with the value RecordFlower provides you. RecordFlower has a step-by-step blog available that guides you through this process.

Propagation time

After the DNS change, it usually takes anywhere from a few minutes up to 24 hours for the change to fully take effect. This is called propagation. Your domain name usually works within an hour. During that time, your webshop is already accessible through your temporary RecordFlower URL.
